Wanna-Be Member can't sign up
Hi all,
My blog has a reader who has repeatedly tried to sign up as a member so she can leave comments, but never has any success.
She writes to me:
"have tried again (the other day) to sign up for 'commenting' on your blog. No luck. I put in my e-mail address. Gave a username, etc. Then it was supposed to send me a confirmation and a password."
Aside from advising her to make sure antville's confirmation isn't stuck in a junk filter, is there anything I can do to help this person?
Thanks, Kate xoetc.antville.org

Actually, your reader should already be logged in after registration, no need to wait for a confirmation messsage.
This might seem pretty strange in comparison with other sites or registration processes but that's the way it is here at Antville.org since the beginning.
Or did I misunderstood your question / her description?
Kate
Thanks, I'll tell her and see if it makes any difference.
She is not the first reader who has told me they don't leave comments because the membership process is a problem somehow. It's just that she's the only one who has told me numerous times, till I finally thought of asking about it.
Next time someone complains, I'll ask for more details and let you know.
Kate
Tobi,
I've let the reader know what you said, and here is her reply:
"Hummmm - Ok I'll try again. But last time I registered it said it would send 'me' a password."
Make sense?

Not exactly, as passwords aren't sent in e-mails any more.
You may reset a password you have forgotten by entering your username and the e-mail address you have used when you registered. You will then receive a confirmation e-mail containing further instructions.
Of course, usernames have to be created beforehand. Maybe the reader missed the registration form?
Hope that helps.

Dunno. She's managing to get in and comment fine now.
However, I got this from another regular reader just now and am passing it on to you:
"It wants me to login to comment but when I try it goes all shy on me."
I don't know if the method to use is something my readers have trouble understanding, or what.
