Petition to re-instate non-Public Subscriber
The Antville 1.1 upgrade removed access for subscribers to non-public sites. Initially, people reported it as bug, but it has been confirmed that this was an intentional change:
first of all: the behaviour you described isn't a bug, it's an intentional change which still makes sense to me, although it might not in your case.I asked for deeper explanation for the change but I have not received a reply to date. I don't understand why this access was (a) removed for subscribers, but (b) still continues for contributors and manager. I do not want to get into a flame war (thats not my intention) about this issue - you either support it or you don't.
So, if you would like this functionality reinstated, please leave a comment of support.

i've always condired the previous behaviour as a bug, so i won't support your petition.
however, here is a work-around for you:
1. since contributors can read you site, upgrade all subscribers to contributors.
2. if you don'want you contributors to write stories or upload files, hide the links to create a story or image etc. (you can simply copy the links from the contibutor menu to the admin menu.) theoretically, your contributors can still post stories to your site by "guessing" the url, but i suppose they are grown up and they know how to behave. if not, you are the admin, you can still delete it.
i hope this helps.

meaning was im klartext?

and now back to english, okay?

I have already explained why I think it's good that Subscribers are not permitted to non-public blogs any more.

If you have a public blog you have subscribers (read-only except for comments), contributors etc. If you have a non-public/private blog why can't you have subscribers? Surely as do I, you want some people to only read your stories e.g. you do not want them to see your offline stories?
I don't understand why you want to switch between private and public modes to grant trust. If its a private blog you get/invite those you trust to register with Antville, but they will not become subscribers to your site. You grant them subscriber, contributor etc member status once you know their membername. I don't see the problem/harm. Why is it a bug?
kris
the option to switch a blog to private is meant to be used temporary, i.e. when you redesign or as an emergency stop in case your boss found your site. in theses cases you don't want to unsubscribe all subscribers.
it actually did "harm" me once when i switched to private, believing the site is only accessable by me.

I assumed that I only had access when I first switched to private too. However, the recent change, still makes its accessible to contributors and managers and you.
What annoys me the most is that I was told to use it as I have done, but it was never mentioned at the time that subscriber access was a bug.
