weblog export/backup
Some time ago there was a discussion regarding a possibility for the blog owner to download the full content of their weblog as an XML file (or rather RSS/RDF).
What's the outcome of that ? Is grabbing HTML still the backup option to choose, if any ... or are there news ?
Cheers ... and thanks for the good work, guys.

(just kidding.)
i don't know how far hannes has come, yet. however, i think an xml file alone won't be enough for this feature. one also might want to have the weblog's images. and one probably might want to re-import the data into a local antville installation.
but i am +1 for this feature, i could use it just right now. if there is already produced code i even would take a look at it and take it further if i can...

really be the best feature an antclick-user could think of!!!

the images could be downloaded (& uploaded to the local/remote antville installation) by a local application (an antclick tool ?) using the img tags (if referring to own images) embedded in the stories' bodies in the xml file.
images not used in stories would be missed out, but it's maybe easiest that way.
however, taking that as a second step after a text-only backup option sounds acceptable, right ???

I had import/export running from one antville weblog to the other. However the unsolved part were how to transfer story authors and the permission checking (you don't want to let anybody export your whole weblog).
Unfortunately, the work on the Helma XML extension that resulted from this never saw the day of light:

I don't think I still have the import export code (at least I wouldn't know on which computer to search for it) but I think it was pretty straightforward and not too hard to write.

probably I am showing my lack of understanding for the Helma concept now, but it doesnt't sound difficult, making the functionality for downloading a full weblog as xml/rss available to the admin only, just like the skin editor.
is it more than just checking the user id and assiociated rights before running the xml generation code ?
a download option - even without the immediate chance to import it back to somewhere - would be a great ... just to have a save copy of the stories locally.
on the other hand, i don't know what load it would cause on the server (and it's internet connection) if there is only a full but no incremental backup option, so that one would have to download the whole weblog for each backup (maybe even including the images).
